Security Advice - Kidnap Tips
GENERAL
Due to an increase in the reported cases of kidnappings and armed
attacks in Rivers State especially of personnel working in the Oil
and Gas Industry and their families, the following security advice
is hereby issued. Though no general advice can be given to cover
every situation as the circumstances always differ, an on the spot
assessment of the most appropriate course of action(s) must always
be made, taking ones personal safety as first priority.

Avoid undue exposure
·
Select domestic servants and drivers with great care and always
request for a guarantor
·
Avoid routine pattern of movements - change times and routes to
offices and school pick-up/drop off (If possible)
Attack Situation
·
Never attempt to run if in your judgment it is not safe for you or
those around you
·
Avoid eye contacts with the assailants, but respond to instructions
and questions calmly and promptly - Stay Calm!!!
·
Implore them not to use their weapons as you will cooperate fully
·
Don’t make sudden movements - like unfastening seat belts - without
first seeking permission, as your intentions may be misconstrued
·
Ask them for reasons for the kidnap
·
Inform them if you or others have medical problems
·
Request to speak with your office, relatives or close friend and
give them the facts as unemotionally as you can.
·
Also request for and take advantage of any food and water that may
be available
·
Maintain physical and mental discipline, such as exercises and keep
your mind positively occupied.
·
Focus all your energy on survival and maintain self respect
·
Don’t attempt to call the Police if it is not safe to do so
